Quick when was the first?Christmas?celebrated? I can guess what everyone?s answer was. If you ask your children that they will of course give the same answer. So now is the time to discuss when the first Christmas was actualyl celebrated because it of course was not called Christmas way back when.
The first recorded Christmas was?celebrated?in 3336. ?In an old list of Roman bishops, compiled in A. D. 354 these words appear for A.D. 336: ?25 Dec.: natus Christus in Betleem Judeae.? December 25th, Christ born in Bethlehem, Judea. Which means that it was not actually celebrated for the first 300 years after Jesus was born. Finding out all of this sort of information makes for an interesting lesson. You and your children will learn all sort of things such as Eastern cultures actually didn?t adopt December 25th until later. They celebrated it on January 6th.

Santa Claus is of diverse?origins. He?originally?started out as Sinterklaas?which means Saint Nicholas and then in 1809 in New York of all place he became the figure we know today. Learning all about who he was, Saint Nicholas was an actually person, and how he became who we know him as is?something?that kids will?love? Have them draw pictures of him throughout the centuries.
