2013 has already proven to be a historical year for Iraq's second biggest revenue generating industry, with the introduction of the new license agreement that requires major mobile operators to float a portion of their shares on the Iraq Stock Exchange.
This led to the first IPO being carried out in Iraq since 2008 by Asiacell. The Iraqi based mobile operator sold 25% of their shares in the offering and raised over $1.3bn in February.
With Zain Iraq and Korek Telecom set to follow, the country's telecoms sector has continued to pique the interest of both national and international investors.
Now in its 8th year, the Iraq Telecoms Conference will take place with the support of key Iraqi Ministries including the Iraqi Ministry of Communications, the Iraqi Parliament, the Kurdistan Ministry of Communications and the Iraq Communications Commission.
Such ministry support has seen Iraq Telecoms build a reputation as being the key event in the industry, as it brings together over 300 key industry representatives from around the globe under one roof to discuss the hot topics in the industry and identify growth opportunities within Iraq.
Voex International, President & Chief strategy Officer, Assad Al Najjar, described the Conference as "The best forum for technical, brainstorming and regulation discussions". Adding to this he stated that Iraq Telecoms is "An open direct channel between the public and IT private sector".
